After spending my whole life being a “stiff upper lip” kind of person, and an” I can deal with everything myself” kind of person, I found myself at a very low ebb. My husband died 2 years ago and this past Christmas, my third without him, was very bad for me.
I never even considered counselling but was fortunate that my employers run a scheme and are very proactive with mental health issues.
From the first session with my counsellor, Patti, I began to feel hope and more positive than I had felt for a very long time. It was a joy to talk to her, not feeling judged.
Quite frankly, she has given me back the ability to change my life and accept the things I cannot change. She put a different perspective on things but most importantly, let me talk.
I would wholeheartedly recommend that if you are struggling, seek counselling support.
It will, paradoxically, make you stronger.
