I completed the Careers Guidance Diploma and naturally went into counselling, going on to complete Nottingham University’s Person Centred Advanced Certificate.
I felt challenged and inspired by the Gestalt process and subsequently completed 3 years formal training with Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute UK and 4 years of voluntary therapy work with Derby Women’s Centre. I have had my own practice since 1998 and work with individuals, couples and families. I never cease to be excited by how this work has helped so many people, of all ages and backgrounds, to find themselves and feel confident in their relationships.
I have also worked as a Training Manager, designing and delivering training programs for ethnic minority groups and disadvantaged young people. I hold the City and Guilds NVQ Level 4 Management of Learning and Development.
I worked for some years in Adult Education and designed and delivered Counselling, Confidence Building, Personal Development and Assertiveness training programs for the County Council at various centres in Derbyshire. I have also delivered Guidance activities and feel confident that I can help my clients with personal development, training and work related issues.
I am a culturally aware person, having lived and worked in Africa and the Islands of the Indian Ocean, and Pacific and parts of Europe.
In this country, I have experience of working closely with the Asian and Caribbean Community. I have also completed the Advanced TEFL Certificate to teach English to foreign students.
I am currently engaged in EAP Associate Counselling work for a large local auth0rity. This entails assessment and six sessions of solution focused therapy, offered across a wide range of clients engaged in various job roles.
I work from private therapy rooms in Belper, Derbyshire, which is both congenial and private, and has parking available, and also from my home.
My fees are £50 per hour for individual therapy and £60 per hour for couples and families. Some concessions are available for student counsellors in training.
